Island of S. Erasmo, Venice. Antonia (40) is a lawyer navigating joys and difficulties of single motherhood. Discouraged by an increasingly precarious freelance career, she spends her mornings searching for alternatives. Her daughter Lena (8) attends a mixed-age class at a primary school at risk of imminent closure. These isolated circumstances drive the little girl to roam the island and come into contact with other forms of animal life inhabiting that space between land and sea. As the water rises and the citizens of Venice begin to face up to their future, Antonia starts to reinvent the sense of her legal practice.

“Each of us may wish to contribute to this world in own ways, in the most disparate fields. In this film, we dive into the machinery of rights and laws, regarded as tools that can be used for life's sake. Driven by her restlessness, Antonia is compelled to reinvent the role of jurisprudence and to transform the prescriptive nature of law into a journey of intersubjective awareness. Antonia’s character enlights a floater of reflections connected to the relationship between our sense of impotence and the climate change; between the time of care and the time of work; between our isolation and the fragile democratic bonds, in an age of uncertainties and tensions. Whilst Antonia tries to rationalize the outcomes of modernization, her daughter Lena melts and resonates with everything that is around her. Both of them try to counter the sense of isolation embodied by the streets and the canals of Sant’Erasmo with their complicity and with a sense of participation capable of dispelling the fog around them”.
